A simple guide to how WhoIG lets you watch Instagram stories without anyone ever knowing.
When you watch a Story on Instagram, your app transmits an authenticated session cookie (ds_user_id and sessionid). Instagram's backend logs this identifier to the creator's viewer database. With WhoIG, our serverless reverse proxy fetches the public CDN manifest on your behalf. Since no session cookie is passed, Instagram's API has zero credentials to record. The story owner can refresh their viewer list a thousand times—your account, handle, and IP address will never be there.
You never need to create a burner account, fake profile, or log in with personal credentials. WhoIG is completely web-based and runs in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, Mac, or Windows. Type any public username or paste a profile link, and active 24-hour stories, permanent Highlights, and reels populate instantaneously.
Instagram automatically purges stories from user profiles after 24 hours. WhoIG caches public media manifests across distributed edge nodes, allowing you to access and download active stories and Highlights before they expire permanently from the platform.
Viewing public web content without an account is protected under United States federal law. In the landmark decision hiQ Labs v. LinkedIn (2022), the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed that accessing publicly accessible internet data does not violate the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA). WhoIG never circumvents access barriers, never accesses private profiles, and strictly indexes public information.
Unlike screen recording or screenshotting (which degrades resolution and compresses colors), WhoIG streams the original high-bitrate media files directly from Instagram's content delivery network. Save full-size 1080p video stories, high-res photos, and audio tracks with a single tap.
Competitors like Inflact charge recurring monthly subscriptions ($54+/mo) and DolphinRadar locks basic features behind freemium tiers. WhoIG is completely free for viewing and downloading public Instagram stories, Highlights, feed posts, and reels with zero daily caps and zero credit cards required.
One of the biggest anxieties of Instagram browsing is accidental interactions—liking a story, voting on an interactive poll slider, or sending an accidental DM emoji. WhoIG strips all interactive webhook listeners for safe viewing.
Renders stories in a pure media sandbox where accidental double taps cannot fire tracking triggers.
Interactive stickers and quiz bars are rendered visually without sending telemetry back to Instagram.
Screen captures and downloads taken through WhoIG are completely local and invisible to the creator.
How to inspect public profiles, stories, and highlights without fear of accidental likes, poll responses, DM slips, or screenshot notifications.
Almost every Instagram user has experienced the panic of accidentally liking an old photo or touching an interactive story slider while scrolling late at night. In the official app, double-tapping a screen instantly registers a like notification on the creator's lock screen. In WhoIG's Ghost Mode, all media elements are isolated in a read-only sandboxed container where touch events cannot trigger Instagram API webhooks.
Instagram stories frequently contain interactive stickers designed to gauge user opinions or collect engagement data. When you view these stories natively, touching a poll sends your username and selected answer directly to the creator's private analytics. WhoIG renders interactive stickers as static visual overlays, ensuring your answers are never registered.
A widespread myth claims that Instagram notifies creators when someone screenshots their 24-hour story. In reality, Instagram only notifies users for disappearing photos and videos sent inside private Direct Messages (Vanish Mode). However, taking screenshots natively still risks accidental taps; WhoIG provides dedicated high-speed download buttons that save the original clean file without taking screenshots.
Ghost Mode is WhoIG's sandboxed viewing environment that strips away interactive tracking listeners, preventing accidental likes, poll votes, or reaction notifications from ever reaching Instagram.
No. Instagram does not send notifications for screenshots of public feed posts, stories, or highlights. However, WhoIG allows you to download original 1080p files directly without needing screenshots.
Yes. WhoIG allows seamless tab switching between active stories, permanent highlights, recent feed posts, carousels, and 1080p reels under the same anonymous protection.
Active stories remain available on WhoIG for the entire 24-hour duration set by Instagram, after which they automatically transition into the user's Highlights tray if saved.
